Literature Text

There is a man I call Superman,
a boy,
a child.
He wants to save the world,
he wants to protect people,
he wants to stop pain, hurt & sorrow.
But Superman is still a child
learning to control his power.

Superman doesn't realize that his smile,
his easy manner,
his soft eyes,
they take down the shields a person puts up.

Superman doesn't realize that his soothing words,
his deep laugh,
his gentle touch,
they lull a person into trusting him,
exposing them to his strong, rough hands.

He doesn't realize how easily people break.
That with the slip of his strong grip,
he can crush them as well as heal them with a caring touch.
A lapse in attention,
and they could fall from great heights, broken
after he's brought them so high.

Superman is only a man,
a boy,
a child.
He still doesn't know his own strength,
his own dangerous greatness,
and I am afraid for him.
A spoken word poem about a friend I call Superman. Critques are always welcome.
